  Chalice 3 clone
Posted by: vern - 06-01-2015, 07:47 PM - Forum: China - Replies (11)

I got a Chalice 3 clone from http://www.fasttech.com to use on my Smokeless Owl and KUI, so this is just a small text review and some thoughts on the device.
Price was around $12 and it is quite small..smaller than you would expect. The machining is great, no complaints, but the assembly stage was a bit messed up.
There is an inner ring which positions the air hole by the coil, but (at least on mine) it was nowhere near the coil. Tapping the inner, press-fit ring out and repositioning it has fixed that problem simply.
I built two coils..one was 0.4ohms and was too hot for me. This was twisted 0.32mm at six wraps.
I then used single 0.32mm at six wraps and produced a 0.8ohm coil which is lovely..enough "excitement" without being overly warm.
Building on the Chalice 3 is easy enough, but I do worry a bit that tightening down the coils *may* (if overdone) snape the threaded section. You have a lot of torque on a smallish area..so some mechanical sympathy goes down well in this area.

OK, on to the important bits, the squonk, the vape,
The squonk is bliss...absolutely bliss..the liquid enters easily and leaves just as easily. A perfect squonk. I find it works nicenst if your wicks do not ocver the squonk hole, and the liquid pretty much gets sucked right out of the wick on squonkback. Put the wick tails next to the liquid hole, and its delightfully simple to use. Due tot he smaller nature, I do need to squonk more often..this isnt a converted 22mm dripper:-)

Vape quality is warm and flavourful. Airflow is ok-to-good...this is a mouth-to-lung vape as works nicely like this.
Best of all, no spitting out the airhole:-) The top of your squonkbox stays dry and no vape residue anywhere due to the way the air enters and exits the chalice 3. This, to me, is probably a good a reason as any to move to this atty.

8/10: would recommend.

Side effect of squonking I've noticed
Posted by: vern - 05-28-2015, 08:39 AM - Forum: General chat - Replies (4)

One of the side effects I've noticed is that I almost dont care about my coils or wick anymore. What was once a deep interesting aspect of vaping, the elite art of coil buiding like a boss, has turned into somethign that doesnt matter much...and to some this should be a good thing.

If you arent good at making coils, or perfecting just the right amount of wick in a kayfun-style tank, then squonking may well be the way to go:-) Make a coil, put some wick in, and whn you squonk, as if Merlin himself was there, just the "right" amount of eliquid is kept on the wicks. Everytime.

So what is the side effect of this? Well, |i'm spending more time on something I always neglected a bit...eliquid mixing, flavours and such.
In effect, one aspect of vaping (wicks and coils) has almost been removed from the equation, leaving me more time to spend pondering the joy of the juice

  smokeless owl 510
Posted by: Moto - 05-27-2015, 09:05 PM - Forum: Troubleshooting - Replies (3)

Is it supposed to be adjustable? - there looks to be a slot but the pin refuses to move. My zenith needs its 510 pin unscrewing to make a connection but it magically screws itself back in over time. I have had to wrap dental floss round the threads to keep my connection.

  Smokeless Owl button lock
Posted by: vern - 05-27-2015, 09:27 AM - Forum: Boxes and tubes - Replies (2)

has anybody had a go at changing the button lock on the Smokeless Owl..because the centre "unlock" position seems to be a bit touchy..I'd ideally like it to be larger, or even turn fully one way=unlock, and fully the other way=lock.
There's little plastic landing zones under the button which control this, so can either cut them out or build them up as required..
thoughts?
